What is bh101?
Hello, and welcome to bh101: a website about, and for the people of, Bournemouth (but encompassing Poole, Christchurch and further a field too). The name, bh101, is a condensation of the town centre postcode, bh1, and 101 (think Maths 101, Astrology 101, and Bournemouth 101). When you sign up: your account is global and allows you to use every feature on bh101, so everything links together. This page is just an introduction to the website, but there's a lot more than what's mentioned on this page..
People is the social side of bh101. Find your friends and keep in touch with them, find new people and spy on them, upload photographs (to your profile or gallery), message your friends and leave them comments, and explore a network of people on your doorstep.

You can search bh101 by all sorts of criteria, and even find people who have the same favourite bands, hobbies, places and so on as you. Or you can just browse the website by photographs alone. bh101 profiles bring together everything a user does on the website: from listing classifieds adverts to forthcoming calendar events.

Enjoy fiddling? bh101 allows you to completely change the look and behaviour of your profile. You don't need to learn complicated code, or stick to set templates: you have access to two tools to alter everything you could possibly need to. First up is Arrange (pictured left), this lets you move the panels in your profile around, add new ones, and delete ones you don't want - meaning all you show on your profile is what you want to show. And there's also the option to use the Advanced Arrange which gives you total control.

And secondly is the Style tool (also pictured): allowing you to change colours, fonts, backgrounds, borders, and more - it's easy to use, and you'd have trouble finding something that you couldn't change!

There's plenty of other toys hidden away in People too. Combine People with Messages and the Forum and you have a website full of awesome people within poking distance from you, hurrah.
The Calendar serves two functions. First of all it's intended to be a definitive guide of what's happening in town, from gigs to football matches, with flyers and a function which allows bh101 members to post messages on the event's details page, so the event can be discussed. There's the normal calendar 'month view', the 'week view' (and 'next week'), and a day view.

The other role of the calendar is Private Events, whilst there is a small fee for adding public events, private events are free to add. Private events can only be seen by people you have set as friends. This function is perfect for organising nights out, and other things that you only want your friends to see. The message posting and flyers are equally available for private and public events, which could make the bh101 calendar a really useful tool to planning your social life.
Classifieds is the marketplace of bh101. bh101 users can post adverts for items, properties, cars, services, and anything they wish to sell. The classifieds does away with the traditional message-based classifieds, and replaces it with a much more modern system tailored to buying and selling: with comprehensive search, support for photographs, a 'make offer' system, a 'watch list' in a summary of all your selling and buying, support for different types of 'sell' (pick up, drop off, meet up.etc), and privacy options for who gets whose information.

Not only that - but there is no time limit on adverts. Your advert is online until it is sold or you remove it. And there's the option to 'Bump' your advert as if it were newly listed - but at only a third of the original £1.50 listing fee.
The Town tab is for the people of Bournemouth (and the surrounding area), not for tourists. We already know we have seven miles of beach: the town section exists to provide information that is actually going to be useful to people already here.

For instance: there's daily updated cinema listings for all the major cinemas, the things to do list, and lots more information planned. This section is going to very user-input orientated, so there's a lots of information and a kinda global consensus to it.

There's also Travel which, with the same philosophy as Town, provides useful information on getting around the town. The bus planner combines the Yellow Buses (Transdev) and Wilts and Dorset bus routes to let you plan journeys from anywhere to anywhere. And currently being compiled is information that will be useful to motorists, and a cycle-route planner (with photos: all those behind bh101 are keen bicycle-ma-lists) to go along with the info already there.
And there's a lot more too: hidden away, presently being worked at, and planned for the future. This site has only just launched, and it can and will adapt to what the user base want it to do. That is why all suggestions for new features are taken 100% seriously, and, more often than not, implemented.
