Whatever happened to the plan to turn bournemouth beach into a harbour?

They were going to get rid of the gardens and beach a little while ago apparently.. SO glad they didn't, and i didn't really understand why they were going to because its such a tourist attraction, yaddayadda..

But it was meant to be happening :s If you want to go to a harbour, then go to poole damnit!

Poole or Christchurch, pfft whats the point in having 3 harbours in a row?? O.o stoopid that is, i dont live in Bournemouth anymore but theyd better not get rid of the beach other wise... what the hell?

aye, I think without the beach Bournemouth wouldn't get a tenth of the visitors it gets at the moment

the Tourism Board probably want to turn Bournemouth into Monaco or something. I feel another PETITION coming if this plan hasn't been completely scrapped!
venus_zoso
yes indeed!
hows the bus one going by the way?

Yeh, and just think of all the money they spent on the gardens - like getting those silly palm trees and whatnot. It would all be a bit of a waste to scrap it all.

itd be one of the most ridiculous things to happen on Earth, itd be literally proposterous, i cant see the general public taking it lying down really, i doubt itd go ahead

I think it was more of an *option* rather than a definite plan. Either way I shouldn't think its going ahead.

Not that getting rid of the tourists would be a bad thing from my personal point of view :p

The Marina Question was floated to be around Hengistbury Head, placing it anywhere near the town center would adversely affect the tidal drift. There would be a demand for one at Hengistbury Head, (probably over the bearpan rocks) since Christchurch Harbour is a difficult passage to navigate, and is restrictive in depth. However with Hengistbury Head being an SSI I can see building a marina near it the council will be sailing into troubled waters.

interesting. Whats an SSI? *embarrassed*

Actually i thought they were getting rid of boscombe pier, kicking out various trouble makers and building a Marina where the boscombe pier won't be :)

SSI = site of scientific interest or something

generally applied to places where there are rare forms of wildlife or geology and stuff as far as im aware
sexyone
no its not that.... its actually boscombe, and they are not making it a harbour they are building an artifical reef for the surfers. ALso they are building flats there too.

Yeh they're doing that, but there was actually talk of making the gardens into a harbour.. must have just been a silly rumour then.. well, i hope!
evil_potatoes
